Changing Your Motorcycle’s Oil in 3 Easy Steps

Changing your bike’s oil is very simple. Not only will you save a few dollars by doing it yourself, but it will also let you understand your machine more. With frequent use, impurities can mix with your oil, affecting your vehicle’s performance, which is why a regular change is essential.​

Drain the Oil
Your engine must first be warm for the oil to drain faster and easier. You can let your engine stay ideal for ten minutes, or you can drive around for a while – a better way to warm up the engine. After a joyful ride, let your bike rest on its side and place an oil tray beneath it.

• Remember not to touch any warm parts of the engine, or you might accidentally get a burn. Remove the drain plug of the engine by using a socket and wrench and turning it counter-clockwise. Additionally, take away the washer and place the cap in a container to keep it safe.

Let it Flow
Make sure the ground is level as you let the oil completely drain. You can sit back and wait until it empties, or you can try coercing the remaining oil bits hiding in nooks and crannies. You can do the latter by tilting your motorcycle on each side carefully. If you have a heavy bike and are unsure whether you can carry it, there is no need to risk it.

Take Away the Old Oil Filter
Having the filter removal tool with an attached wrench, you can use it and get the old oil filter unscrewed by turning it in a counter-clockwise direction. Another oil batch will begin pouring out of the screen. You can relax with a coffee in hand, or a beer if you prefer while waiting for the oil to drain completely.

• After draining the old oil, the drain plug of your engine can now fit a new washer. You don’t have to use a torque wrench in screwing the cap back in the sump. Only make sure it’s sealed tight.
